We decided that we wanted to update the attic installation of our 18 year old home because we were experiencing issues with condensation at the top of a couple wall in the winter. We looked at the attic installation and found that it had settled and was blown away from the top of the wall in a few spots.
We contacted Rockweiler to get an estimate, and the estimator that came out was prompt and did a nice job of explaining what he found and explaining what some options were available to us. He sent us an estimate for three different upgrade options and let us decide what we wanted to do.
After we decided what we wanted to do, we scheduled the upgrades. Rockweiler’s small crew was great. Friendly, knowledgeable and capable. They got to work and it only took them a few hours to seal up air leaks throughout the entire attic before blowing in the additional insulation that we requested.
It has been two warm summer months since we had the attic sealed and increased the insulation from whatever R-value it was after the years of settling to an R-value of 60 and the benefit was immediately noticeable. The house is much cooler and quieter now than it was before. There have been several days where in the past, we would have had to use the air conditioning, but now we just closed the windows in the heat of the day and opened up when the temperature dropped in the evening. And on the sustained hot days, the AC runs much less. We hadn’t expected to feel a difference in the summer, we did these improvements for the heating season. I am looking forward to seeing how the house will feel in the winter and I have no doubt that we will see a noticeable drop in our heating costs.
The Rockweiler team was also great with informing us about available rebates and tax credits to help offset costs of the upgrades.
